VANCOUVER—The number of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada constitutes a genocide, according to the long-awaited Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry report to be released Monday.
Star Vancouver has obtained an advance copy of the report — titled Reclaiming Power and Place — which closely examines the huge number of missing and murdered Indigenous women in the country.
“Genocide is the sum of the social practices, assumptions and actions detailed within this report,” reads the executive summary. “As many witnesses expressed, this country is at war, and Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual) people are under siege.”
