ORANGEDALE, N.S. —
Some young campers will get back to nature this weekend when Parks Canada and We’koqma’q First Nation team up for a Learn-to Camp event.
Parks Canada usually holds the weekend events at the Fortress of Louisbourg, the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site to introduce first-time campers to the outdoors and encourage them to visit Canada’s special heritage places.
“The tents are provided by Parks Canada and we help people set them up and show them how to start a campground fire, go over a bit of the safety and preparedness that you should have if you’re going camping and try to really introduce people into the experience of learning what camping is about,” said Parks Canada’s Eddie Kennedy, adding that this Learn-to Camp marks the first time they’ve hosted the event outside of a Parks Canada site.
