(Fort McMurray, AB – August 17, 2018) – The Municipality has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for potential development specific to municipally-owned lands bordered by Franklin Ave., Morrison St., MacDonald Ave. and Main St. in downtown Fort McMurray.
The RFP was posted on Alberta Purchasing Connection on Aug. 11 and closes on Nov. 14, 2018. The Municipality is looking for prospective proponents to submit proposals for the acquisition of an interest in the lands and in design and development of the area.
“This Council is committed to developing the downtown core so that it becomes an attractive focal point in the community for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Don Scott. “I’m pleased to see our vision for a revitalized downtown moving forward.”
Downtown revitalization is identified in the 2018-2021 Strategic Plan as one of four strategic priorities for the Municipality. The other three are responsible government, regional economic development and rural and Indigenous partnerships and communities.
“We’re looking ahead to gathering proposals and evaluating the ideas that are brought forward,” said Jamie Doyle, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer. “We recognize that any potential development in this area must be supported by the community and we will ensure a comprehensive public engagement process.”
